Scheich in China: Scheich in China (LP, V I S, August 2016)

I don't know where Golden Püdel's Nina dug Scheich in China up from, but this is quite a find. The first side has three tracks of dark, intense, atmospheric, industrial techno: skittering beats, deliciously organic sounding pads, and primeval buzzing noises abound, with the whooping of oscillators being about the closest we get to a melody. The impeccably stuttering Geiger-counter pops on A2 are a particular highlight for me. The B-side is a single (although distinctly episodic) 18-minute track. It starts out a much more ambient affair, with the beats dialled right down and the creaking and buzzing synths layered with some distinctly grimy and urban field recordings. Don't be fooled, though, as by the 15-minute mark this has grown into a bit of a 'floor-killing monster — until it stops abruptly, ending with 3 minutes of ominous rumbling which sounds a bit like a mutated locked groove, and lo and behold ends up etched into the locked groove. Moody and magnificent.

I bought this from Boomkat. They call it Dark Ambient / Drone / Metal and Techno / House.
